Blair Douglas is the Practice Lead for water management and mine closure for BHP globally, an executive leadership role setting technical and strategic direction on water management, mine closure and resource development across all BHP assets. Prior to this role he was BHPs technical lead for river remediation and recovery efforts at Samarco, Brazil. A hydrogeologist by training and with over 33 years experience in the mining industry, he has held technical management roles at multiple operations and functions in various countries and environments, specifically in the field of water supplies, site wide water management and catchment scale water resource impacts, mine dewatering and depressurisation, and tailings dams interactions. Prior to joining BHP, Blair worked as a consultant in Australian mines and large copper and gold operations of Chile, Peru and Indonesia, living and working for many years in South America.
He is a global expert on integrating water management into mine plans and operations and advocates for addressing hydrological uncertainty in complex decisions. He has Represented BHP on the ICMM water working groups. Strives to ensure Water Stewardship and Corporate reporting is transparently underpinned by technical rigor and grounded in reality.
