Biography
Narendran assumed the CEO role at Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) in August 2019, leading efforts to ensure a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment for current and future Malaysians through a reliable and efficient sewerage system. With over two decades of diverse experience, he brings strong expertise in strategic planning, business development, and water infrastructure management.
His earlier tenure at IWK (1998–2005) included roles as Planning Engineer and Manager, where he contributed to key infrastructure and operational planning initiatives. He later served at Ranhill Utilities from 2005 to 2019, holding several strategic positions and providing significant support to the Group CEO. During this period, he drove business development, strategic planning, and operational improvement efforts, contributing to the organization’s growth and innovation.
Since returning to IWK as CEO, Narendran has spearheaded initiatives that expanded sewerage service coverage across Peninsular Malaysia and successfully secured an extension of IWK’s national concession to 2034. He has championed circular economy strategies focusing on waste-to-wealth initiatives, including bioeffluent reuse, biosolid applications, and enhanced biogas production. Under his leadership, IWK also achieved a major restructuring of the sewerage tariff—its first adjustment in 28 years—ensuring long-term operational sustainability.
Narendran holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Civil-Environmental Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). A registered engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and a member of the Malaysian Water Association, he blends technical expertise with a deep commitment to environmental stewardship, driving transformative progress in Malaysia’s water industry.
